Something to Be Thankful For

Wonderful news! In less than two weeks, Alex fully edited all 19 chapters of Blood of Midnight: The Broken Prophecy. Spectacular work! Now I must buckle down and implement the necessary changes and it will be back in his hands for a second round.

I must admit, I’ve been sweating over the winter deadline a bit, but no more! Feels great to be back in action after a nice, restful Thanksgiving long weekend.

Samhain Decorations

Hurrah! I finally finished my wall display. And in all the days I’ve been working with my art scalpel with never an injury … I cut my dang finger on the extra paper  that I was stuffing into the recycling. Go figure.

It looks much better when lit obviously but I won’t be able to snap a photo of that until after sundown. The boxes are all repurposed from things I’ve bought like a kitchen scale or laptop or what-have-you. Painted black. The pictures are cut from old calendars while the mask and pseudo jack o’ lantern (Box o’ lantern?) were my creations. Hurray for reusing things!

Geno 2.0

So, this little guy arrived yesterday in the mail.

I’m pretty excited to find out about my ancestors. Last year around this time, I heard of this Genographic Project but didn’t have enough money for the 200.00CAD at that time. This year, I saved the funds as part of the Halloween budget to make sure I could do it as a tribute to my ancestors. Continue reading “Geno 2.0”

Writing Antagonists

Here’s a lovely post from one of my favourite tumblrs that I just couldn’t resist sharing. I often have the opposite problem: knowing my villain better than my hero, but I know that’s not always the case.

Enjoy!

It’s that time of year again …

Here’s a sneak preview of my Samhain decorations.

Doesn’t look as good with the flash on but hopefully I’ll be able to snap a photo of it lit up when I figure out this camera.

Three Words to Shut Off My Brain

Image

Yep.  I sometimes have this problem with overzealous activist friends. They get hyperfocused on their cause and forget that other people may see the world differently. So here’s a list of things that will and won’t  help you win friends and allies. Continue reading “Three Words to Shut Off My Brain”

Winter Storage

So this adorable fuzzball tried to bury an apple in my morning glory planter.

He took off when I went to open the balcony door so no harm was done.

I Hate Rocky Horror Picture Show

Image

I often get asked why I hate Rocky Horror Picture Show. A lot of people know how much I love costuming, Halloween, decorating, and musicals and, as such, as soon as October rolls around, the Rocky Horror invites start pouring into my inbox.

I got my first one of the season today so I thought I’d post my contribution to the interesting conversation it sparked. Feel free to discuss as long as you remain respectful about it. Continue reading “I Hate Rocky Horror Picture Show”

Last Day of September

And it’s been a good one so far! I’m now about one and a half chapters into writing the sequel to my current novel Blood of Midnight: The Broken Prophecy, Alex sent me six chapters of edited work for me to dig into, and I picked up some lights for my Halloween decorations.

Not bad at all.
