Materials Arriving Tomorrow!

The raw adamas (acrylic) is set to arrive at the Adamant Studio tomorrow! I can’t wait!

Clear Acrylic

My new distributor is VINK and their slogan “passion for plastics” caught my eye immediately. They’re significantly more expensive than my previous supplier Johnston Plastics but seeing as I’m now located in Helsinki, Finland, my options are limited. Still, I’ll do my best to keep prices affordable for all my fellow Shadowhunter fans.

So all you fantastic folks who have placed orders for this upcoming autumn, rejoice! The re-establishment of the Studio is coming together on schedule and I’ll be able to get crafting as soon as my tools arrive. I’ll keep you posted on arrival dates and my crafting progress as per usual.

Until the next update: this is the Adamant Studio signing off!

Furnishing the Workshop

It’s happeniiiiiiing! Just placed an order last night and my new babies are on their way to me.

A nice badass belt sander …

band saw

And a big ol’ band saw.

For a tough material like acrylic, nothing of lesser calibre will do. As soon as I have these and my plastics in hand, I can get to crafting. Stay tuned for more news.

Special Announcement

The Adamant Studio has received word that Julie is in need of a Seraph Blade to commemorate her birthday. In honour of this occasion, a short-sword has been commissioned and designed by the Studio to properly arm her against the powers of darkness.

It is now in the first stages of its creation. We will keep you posted on its progress. Until then, continue protecting your family and the nation of Norway from demonic forces. Good luck Hunter.

This is the Adamant Studio, signing off.

News from the Adamant Studio

My freshly-acquired workshop!

It’s not much to look at right now but we just signed the lease yesterday. I’ve managed to secure a headquarters large enough to have a dedicated workshop. If all goes according to plan, the Adamant Studio will soon been in operation once again and I can start making new Seraph Blades! Can’t wait!

Stay tuned for more news and, as always, happy hunting.

The Forging of Azrael

DSC_0312

At long last, I am pleased to present you with the Seraph blade Azrael. It’s been finished for some time now, but I have only had a chance to post about it now.

Azrael is the largest and longest blade I have ever crafted at the time of this posting. Its total length comes in at a whopping 30 inches. It can be wielded with one hand or two though due to it’s length and weight, I recommend using both hands.

This was the last blade to be forged in the Adamant Studio in Montreal before I moved to Finland and I’d like to share with you the making of my favourite sword to date.

I’ve Landed In Finland!

2015-08-20 17.24.03

What a beautiful place it is. I’ve been here for about five days now but I only just got a chance to make a post now. It’s been crazy. I’m still struggling to find an apartment here and Finnish language lessons. Luckily I have some new friends helping me out.

As you may guess, I do not have my workshop set up here yet so I CANNOT MAKE SERAPH BLADES RIGHT NOW. Please watch this blog for announcements of when I have my new work space and tools and stock to sell. Sorry for the inconvenience! I’m sure you can understand my situation. It’s a little difficult starting a new life in a new country. I estimate I will have a new workshop sometime in late October so if you need a Seraph blade starting in November, I can probably do that for you. I will start a list of future orders and let you know as soon as I am open for business. Thank you so much for your patience.

In the meantime, I’ve been fooling around with a photo series highlighting funny cultural differences as I find my way around Helsinki. A friend suggested that I put it on a blog somewhere … hmm, I wonder where I could do that … I wonder …

Shaping the New Blade

Just a sneak preview of the new sword in progress! It is the longest blade I’ve ever done so I’m keeping it a bit thicker in the center to preserve its strength. Please pardon the ridiculous pillowcase on my head. It’s the only way I can keep the acrylic dust out of my hair! Otherwise I look like I’ve been spontaneously snowed on.

It’s another sunny day so it looks like I will have a chance to finish the shaping today! Until next time, happy hunting!

New Seraph Blade Commission

That’s right folks, I’m at it again! Have a sneak peek at the latest Shadowhunter sword design:

I was contacted a few days ago with this reference photo:

And asked if I could do something similar as a Seraph Blade. Why yes! Yes I can.

How to Make Crystal Clear Shadowhunter Blades

So you wanna look like this? Well, bad news: there’s only one Jamie Bower in the world and chances are, you’re not him. But I can help you out with that sweet, sweet Seraph Blade.

You can commission a blade from me. Here’s my Etsy shop! Or you can email me at inkbladestudios@gmail.com to ask about custom orders. Each blade is made to order and is individually made by hand so please allow for a few weeks of crafting time.

But what if you want to make your own? Well, here’s a tutorial on how to carve one from solid acrylic. I make them out of liquid resin these days, but that is a huge expense for a single seraph blade which is probably what you want if you’re reading this.
